City Engineer
Annual salary range: $140,195 to $184,384

The City of Grand Rapids is seeking an experienced, collaborative City Engineer to lead a high-performing department delivering complex, high-profile capital projects in a growing urban environment.
Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, the City Engineer oversees 44 staff and manages an annual operating budget of $7–$8 million, along with a multi-year capital improvement portfolio totaling $170–$200 million. Key initiatives include ARPA-funded infrastructure projects, major downtown river corridor investments, and high-visibility developments such as a new soccer stadium and amphitheater.
The ideal candidate is a calm, confident, and approachable leader with strong communication skills, experience managing large-scale public infrastructure projects, and the ability to build productive partnerships across departments, with the development community, and with the public.
Qualifications include: a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, and at least ten years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, including management of public works projects.
