Job Summary
The Engineer serves as the responsible-charge professional in the evaluation, design, and detailing of structures and bridges for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. This role involves supervising engineers and technicians, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and timely delivery of structural and bridge plans. The position also includes project management, technical leadership, and collaboration with stakeholders to support the successful implementation of transportation infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Analysis & Review
Prepare and review preliminary and final bridge and structure designs in compliance with applicable specifications.
Perform structural calculations and analyses for both statically determinate and indeterminate structures of steel and concrete.
Develop plans, sketches, and technical drawings, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
Review shop drawings and ensure conformance with project requirements.
Conduct inspections and condition assessments of existing structures and develop rehabilitation scopes.
Project Management
Manage bridge and structure design projects, coordinating with other engineering sections and consultants.
Develop project scopes, manage schedules, review proposals, and monitor progress.
Maintain detailed project documentation and communicate status updates to stakeholders.
Lead project meetings, including pre-construction and design coordination sessions.
Leadership & Supervision
Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and technicians.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance.
Promote continuous learning and professional development among staff.
Serve as the responsible-charge engineer in accordance with applicable policies and engineering codes.
Technical & Program Support
Provide technical direction and recommendations for bridge construction, maintenance, and problem resolution.
Offer expert advice to internal teams and external partners on engineering practices and standards.
Support improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Develop and implement engineering policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals.
Communication & Coordination
Respond to technical inquiries from staff, contractors, and public stakeholders.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and ensure effective dissemination of technical information.
Represent engineering functions in meetings with government agencies and project partners.
Requirements
Required Skills & Knowledge
Advanced understanding of civil and structural engineering principles, including statics, strength of materials, and analysis.
Proficiency in design codes and standards such as AASHTO and LRFD.
Knowledge of structural steel, reinforced, and prestressed concrete design, as well as soil mechanics.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Proficiency with engineering and design software, including analysis and drafting tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Effective leadership, team coordination, and staff development skills.
Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make informed engineering decisions.
Education & Licensure
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Proficiency in engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.
