Lead/Principal Quantum Compiler Engineer - 466
We are seeking a Lead/Principal Quantum Compiler Engineer for our Broomfield, CO location. Quantinuum believes that employees work better, more efficiently and more collaboratively in close proximity to other employees, where ideas can be exchanged readily, and decisions can be made more quickly for the benefit of the Company and our customers. All employees should work at their assigned location; however, this role may offer the opportunity to work remotely up to 2 days per week, with approvals.
Our compiler team is at the forefront of bridging the gap between groundbreaking quantum applications and the unparalleled computing power of quantum machines. As a Quantum Compiler Engineer, you are invited to join an interdisciplinary team of physicists and software developers dedicated to transforming platform agnostic quantum algorithms into concrete, executable instructions tailored for our state-of-the-art trapped-ion quantum computers.
In this role, you will engage in pioneering work, collaborating closely with compiler specialists to forge user-friendly languages and tools designed for crafting quantum programs. Your expertise will be instrumental in advancing the development of sophisticated heuristics and algorithms. These innovations are critical for optimizing the routing of ions across complex topologies, significantly enhancing the speed and efficiency of quantum applications executed on our platforms.
By contributing to our team, you will not only play a key role in optimizing code generation for quantum computing but also in shaping the future of quantum technology. Your work will ensure that our quantum computers can realize their full potential, unlocking new possibilities for solving some of the world's most challenging problems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive strategic vision and leadership in architecture and implementation of compilers targeting advanced quantum computer capabilities
- Work with industry leaders to develop standards that support future-looking machine capabilities and foster partnerships
- Mentor and develop technical leadership within the compiler team to build long-term organization capability and architectural vision.
- Oversee advanced compiler design projects and development including: Compiler front-end (quantum languages), Back-end (machine-specific targeting) & Optimization passes (quantum circuit optimization and classical optimization) operating on both classical and quantum operations
- Cross-disciplinary collaboration and technical leadership while working with a diverse team including physicists and other engineering disciplines to solve complex problems
- Champion code quality and engineering excellence, leading by example while contributing high quality code in an R&D and rapid prototyping environment
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Masters/PhD degree required
- Minimum 5+ years of industry or post-graduate experience in an engineering, lab, or R&D environment
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience developing compiler infrastructure and technologies
- Minimum 2+ years of experience developing compilers targeting quantum computers
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status)
WE VALUE:
- Masters/PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant field
- 10+ years of programming experience with Python, Rust, C++, or similar language preferred
- History of working with and developing for the LLVM toolchain
- Track-record of algorithm development tackling complex optimization problems with innovative solutions and ability to clearly communicate those solutions
- Experience as a technical lead in an academic or industry R&D team focused on development of compiler technologies
- Rust development experience especially including any LLVM or optimization algorithm development
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of algorithms, including tree, graph, SAT, Machine Learning and other algorithms
- Experience with MLIR or other high-level IR
- Experience with development of application-specific and heuristic algorithms, especially where exact/optimal solutions are computationally intractable
- Proficiency with software testing and deployment tools
