Job Summary
The Manufacturing Layout Engineer plays a critical role in designing efficient, safe, and high-quality production environments for new product launches. This position leads the development and optimization of production lines, sub-assembly cells, work-in-process (WIP) zones, and material presentation systems to meet takt time, quality, and safety goals.
The engineer collaborates closely with tooling, facilities, safety, quality, and operations teams to implement lean manufacturing principles, support hands-on line launches, and continuously improve factory layouts.
Key Responsibilities
Design production line and cell layouts using AutoCAD, including workstations, material flow, and operator zones
Collaborate with tooling teams to develop ergonomic fixtures and material handling solutions
Define standard work sequences and support line balancing and manpower planning
Develop supermarkets and kitting areas aligned with takt time and visual management principles
Implement lean practices such as 5S, visual controls, and error-proofing measures
Support line buildouts including floor marking, workstation placement, and launch adjustments
Document best practices, layout standards, and lessons learned
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering with layout responsibility
Proficiency in AutoCAD for production and station-level design
Strong experience applying lean manufacturing principles
Hands-on problem-solving skills in shop-floor environments
Excellent cross-functional communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with time studies and basic line balancing
Experience launching new production lines or products
Lean Six Sigma training or certification
Tools & Systems
AutoCAD (required)
Microsoft Office and Excel for analysis and reporting
Performance visualization tools preferred
Manufacturing simulation tools a plus
MES and digital work instruction systems familiarity preferred
