THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Water/Wastewater Utilities. This role directly impacts the reliability and sustainability of water and wastewater systems that serve growing communities, ensuring residents have dependable access to essential infrastructure. As a trusted face to municipal clients, the Project Manager helps deliver highquality, fiscally responsible projects that strengthen longterm partnerships and improve quality of life across the region. This role will be leading the planning, design, and delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects for public-sector clients. This role is ideal for a licensed civil engineer who enjoys technical leadership, client partnership, and mentoring teams while delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions.
Successful candidates will quickly build trusted relationships with municipal clients while assuming leadership of active projects and contributing to a smooth transition within the water and wastewater utilities team.
The position is based in Lakewood, Colorado, with a hybrid work schedule (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office). Candidates located outside of Colorado will be considered and must be willing to relocate.
WHAT OUR CLIENT DOES
Birdie’s client, Muller Engineering Company, is a mid-sized civil engineering consulting firm providing engineering design, program management, environmental planning, and construction management services for projects in transportation, stormwater and floodplain management, water and wastewater utilities, and structural and bridge design. They specialize in public-sector infrastructure across water/wastewater, stormwater/flood control, transportation (roads/bridges/trails), and environmental and structural services.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects that support reliable service for local communities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for key municipal clients, building trusted relationships and ensuring projects are wellmanaged from concept through completion
- Serve as technical lead overseeing for hydraulic modeling, alternative analysis, and QA/QC of design packages
- Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets to deliver highquality work on time and within budget
- Review and guide the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and technical reports
- Mentor and support a small team of 2–3 engineers, promoting highquality work, collaboration, and professional development
- Work closely with clients to understand needs, solve challenges, and deliver practical, costeffective solutions
- Support business development efforts through client engagement and proposal development, contributing to longterm client relationships and repeat work
Requirements
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ORGANIZATION
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; Master’s degree is a plus
- 10+ years of experience in water and wastewater planning, design, and project management
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain Colorado licensure
- Experience leading project teams and managing consultant or internal resources
- Strong communication, organization, and problemsolving skills
- Familiarity with water and wastewater modeling, design, and industrystandard software
- A collaborative mindset with a focus on quality, accountability, and client service
