At Convergent Energy + Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies.

The Electrical Project Engineer will support battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar PV project development with the goal of delivering results on our growing portfolio of owner-operated commercial, industrial, and utility scale renewable projects.

The Electrical Project Engineer will work with the development, procurement, project and operations teams on site assessments / technical due diligence, technology and vendor evaluation, electrical design review, construction, testing and commissioning, and asset management. Other functions will include preparing task orders for engineering services and developing internal engineering standards and processes.

An ideal candidate will have a breadth of experience in the design, engineering, and analysis of battery storage systems, solar PV systems, and electrical substations. This candidate will be a part of the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Operations (EPCO) team and serve as the single point of contact for technical and engineering matters for all assigned projects.

This position may include up to 15% travel to include prospective sites, project locations, and customer and vendor visits.

* The position is hybrid to Convergent's NYC office, however, non-regional candidates may be eligible for fully remote work.

What You’ll Do

Work on Project Development

  • Greenfield and brownfield site assessments and reports
  • Technical project due diligence and feasibility review
  • Develop site plans and SLDs for project preliminary engineering design
  • Interconnection, regulatory, and permitting process support
  • Engineering consultant evaluations

Work with EPCO

  • Engineering, procurement, and construction contract support
  • Develop and improve engineering standards and procedures
  • Design optimization for reliability and cost-efficiency
  • Equipment / technology evaluations and selection
  • Electrical system design and modeling as necessary
  • Engineering support during construction including reviewing and commenting on design deliverables provided by consultants and contractors for the construction of projects, technical support for project managers, testing, and commissioning
  • Asset operation support to troubleshoot existing systems and develop repair and remediation plans to increase asset uptime

Grow the Organization

  • Improve and develop processes and best practices for the execution of safe, quality and high-performance projects
  • Keep team updated on technology, industry, and safety trends
  • Peer review of team deliverables, providing constructive feedback for improvement and continuous professional growth
  • Be a technical resource for Convergent internally and externally


Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field
  • 5+ years electrical engineering experience including proficiency in single-line and three-line diagram conventions, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnecting means requirements, equipment selection, grounding methodologies, arc-flash and short circuit current analysis
  • 3+ years professional experience in energy storage system design, development, construction with proficiency in energy storage system design, including inverters, battery modules, and battery safety systems/standards
  • Experience with medium voltage and high voltage interconnection design including equipment specifications and utility standards
  • Familiarity with interconnection processes of utilities and ISOs
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical application of NEC/NESC, as well as related industry standards such as NFPA855, NFPA72, UL9540, UL9540A, UL973, UL1642, UL1741, etc
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, MS-Office, and ERP software/tools
  • Proficiency with power system modeling software/tools

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Experience with PSSE, PSCAD, and other advanced modeling tools
  • Substation/HV design experience
  • Experience in solar PV system design and modeling
