- Sr Electrical Controls Engineer
Description
Scope of Position
In this role, you will provide electrical discipline support for the construction, installation, debugging, and startup of equipment and automated systems. You will work hands-on through turnover to operations at both domestic and international manufacturing sites. The majority of your time will be spent on the manufacturing floor, directly supporting equipment and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and provide technical direction during all phases of equipment installation and conversion
Develop and execute project plans and timelines while maintaining safety, quality, and intellectual property standards
Build a strong understanding of process and equipment functionality within your area of responsibility
Analyze and improve equipment installation practices to increase efficiency
Interface with external system integrators and machine builders
Perform hands-on troubleshooting and direct engineering technicians and skilled trades as needed
Review, redline, and modify electrical and controls documentation
Procure and expedite materials for new or modified equipment installations
Assess the condition and usability of existing equipment for new installation plans
Modify and support software used for process equipment control
Configure and support machine controls, including analog and digital I/O, control logic, fail-safe states, and recovery sequences
Assist in the development of integrated industrial control systems for new and existing manufacturing equipment
Redesign electrical components to reduce cost, resolve interferences, and correct design deficiencies
Requirements
Required Education & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
Manufacturing experience with process and automation equipment
Knowledge of power systems (480 VAC and below)
Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics and translate engineering solutions into practical requirements
Strong collaboration skills across multiple engineering disciplines
Hands-on ability using standard tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices
Flexibility to manage multiple work streams in a team environment
Strong commitment to job site safety and proactive safety practices
Self-starter with a results-oriented mindset
Desired Skills
Experience with AutoCAD®, AutoCAD Electrical
Experience with PLC and PC-based control systems, including Beckhoff, B&R, and Allen-Bradley PLC/Motion Control
Automated equipment systems experience
Knowledge of applicable electrical and industrial regulations and compliance requirements
Project management experience (scope, budget, and schedule development)
Knowledge of optical fiber manufacturing processes
PLC programming and development
SCADA/HMI development, PID control theory, and strong electro-mechanical technical understanding
