Description
We are seeking a highly technical and experienced AV Design Engineer to architect comprehensive audio-visual systems from the ground up. In this role, you will be the technical authority behind our projects, responsible for building detailed proposals, specifying equipment, and generating precise drawing packages. More importantly, you will serve as the technical bridge to our installation team—ensuring that what looks good on paper actually works in the real world. You won't just be handing off drawings; you will be an active collaborator with our field technicians to ensure successful, seamless execution.
Key Responsibilities
Architect complete, holistic AV systems (audio, video, control, and network integration) based on project scopes and operational requirements.
Generate highly accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical proposals, ensuring every necessary component (down to the connectors and patch cables) is accounted for.
Create comprehensive technical drawing packages, including signal flow schematics, floor plans, rack elevations, and wire pull schedules.
Lead formal project hand-off meetings with project managers and field technicians to walk them through the design intent and technical nuances of the build.
Serve as the primary technical resource for the installation team, providing guidance, troubleshooting assistance, and design modifications as real-world field conditions dictate.
Validate that all system designs are functional, scalable, and compliant with current industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
Maintain deep, up-to-date knowledge of AV technologies, control systems, DSPs, and AV-over-IP network topologies.
Qualifications & Skills
Drafting Proficiency: Must be highly proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, or Bluebeam Revu to generate professional technical drawings.
System Knowledge: Deep, holistic understanding of AV system architecture, including signal routing, DSP configurations (e.g., Q-SYS, Biamp), control platforms (e.g., Crestron, Extron), and video distribution.
Field Communication: Excellent ability to communicate complex technical concepts to field technicians, installers, and project managers. You must speak their language.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in AV system design, engineering, or a highly technical lead-installer role transitioning into design.
Network Fluency: Strong grasp of IP networking principles, switches, and VLANs as they relate to modern AV-over-IP deployments.
Problem Solving: Ability to anticipate installation bottlenecks during the design phase and adapt designs quickly when field challenges arise.
Preferred (But Not Required) Qualifications
Avixa CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) certification.
Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Q-SYS Level 2+, Crestron, Audinate/Dante Levels 2 or 3).
Prior field experience as an AV Installer or Lead Technician.
What We Offer
Competitive salary of [$40 - $55] depending on experience.
Comprehensive benefits package (Health, Dental, Vision).
[401(k) with company match / Paid Time Off / Professional Development opportunities].
How to Apply: Please submit your resume and a portfolio containing examples of your technical drawings (CAD, Visio, or Bluebeam) and/or sanitized BOMs to brian@irelandsoundsystems.com
