All of our owners are Registered Professional Engineers active with the firm. In addition, GHA has 13 more Registered Professional Engineers, 3 Professional Land Surveyors, 4 Professional Engineer Interns, 1 Environmental Resource Specialists, 28 Engineering Technicians and 15 other CAD, clerical, and support staff members. Eleven members of our staff are Certified Professionals in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), five internationally certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineers (PTOE), 5 Certified Survey Technicians (CST), 2 Surveyors in Training (SIT) and one Certified Planner (AICP)

We have Illinois Professional Land Surveyors on staff with full capabilities to provide all land surveying services including boundary and topographic surveys, construction layout, easement plat preparation, annexation plats, and vacation plats.
To complement and support our design staff, GHA has four full-time field crews outfitted with robotic total station surveying equipment, and the equipment and personnel to run two additional crews as needed. We also own dual-frequency Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers that expedite and enhance many of our surveying activities, as well as sub-meter, hand-held GPS units for GIS data collection. In keeping with our commitment to utilization of current technology, GHA also owns a High Definition Surveying (HDS) scanner. This equipment gives us the ability to measure intricate or inaccessible features and surfaces with an extraordinary level of accuracy.
Through our CAD and GIS facilities we can provide a full range of municipal mapping services, including utility atlases, zoning maps, aerial photo exhibits, and Police/Fire district maps.

Firm History
Robert B. Hamilton and David J. Gewalt formed GHA in August of 1981. Prior to forming the firm, both were Professional Engineers with a decade of experience each. Both founding principals now have over 38 years of experience each. Bruce Shrake joined the firm in 1988 as a third principal. He began his career in 1976 with Morris Engineering, now located in Lisle, Illinois.
The firm’s Principals have long-standing career involvement in the public sector and enjoy working in this area. Bruce Shrake served the City of Des Plaines as City Engineer for five years, and David Gewalt served as Chief Engineer for the Lake County Department of Public Works for six years. Mr. Gewalt has served as the Village Engineer for the Village of Bannockburn for the past 20 years and Mr. Hamilton served as Village Engineer for the Village of Northfield for 15 years, Kildeer for 20 years, and Barrington Hills for 10 years.
