What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Electronics Engineer with a diverse skillset to support the development and production of high reliability custom capacitors to meet national security needs. You will work with our suppliers and stakeholders to develop custom electronic components, then coordinate, oversee, and manage test activities to characterize and understand product performance relative to functional requirements in specified field environments. Finally, you will work to document the design, development activities, test data and other information guiding the development of these custom components. Data analysis and documentation are key elements of this position. You will work in a highly collaborative team environment engaging with engineering teams at Sandia's state-of-the-art electrical, mechanical (shock and vibration), and/or radiation test facilities.
For products in qualification or steady state production, you will partner closely with our production partners, suppliers, and product acceptance tester engineers. You will provide technical support for product and tester qualification activities, assess product performance, conduct production process evaluations, and participate in failure analyses as required. Occasional travel is required.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Collaborate with customers to understand requirements, needs and design constraints
- Document engineering and design decisions, test data, and design definitions
- Coordinate with technologists to set up tests, collect, analyze and record data, troubleshoot test setups
- Interface with the product development team, test facilities personnel, suppliers, quality engineers, electrical test engineers, etc.
- Analyze, document and present data on component performance
- Evaluate production processes with an eye toward continuous improvement
- Perform failure analyses
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

About Our Team
The High Reliability Custom Technologies department designs and develops custom capacitors and magnetics (transformers of various types, inductors, solenoid coils, etc.) for nuclear weapons and other national security applications. The department covers the complete product realization lifecycle including requirements definition, design, development, specification, qualification, procurement, delivery, and stockpile support. Our designs must demonstrate electrical and mechanical functionality, high reliability, and nuclear safety across a rigorous requirements space for extended service lifetimes. We work closely with our production partners at the Kansas City National Security Campus, the Sandia External Production program, and our suppliers to realize quality product. Defect-prevention strategies are engrained in our work and design margins are quantified. We support our customers by providing innovative designs, production techniques, and hardware for new programs while continuing the development, production, and surveillance of current and legacy components. We are advancing new technologies for next generation product insertion opportunities.
Posting Duration
