Gas and electric design is the process of planning where gas and electric lines will go to safely bring energy to homes, businesses, and other places. These designs make sure people get the power they need for things like heating, cooking, and electricity. Gas and electric design is important because it helps keep energy flowing safely and reliably to everyone who needs it.

A gas/electric designer plans and creates the layout for gas and electric systems that provide power to homes, businesses, and other buildings. Here are some of their main tasks:

• Decide the best paths for electric wires and gas pipes to travel, avoiding obstacles like roads and
  buildings.
• Draw plans that show where gas and electric lines, equipment, and poles will go.
• Make sure the design meets all safety standards to protect people and property.
• Collaborate with engineers, construction workers, and utility companies to make sure the design
  is practical and buildable.
• Follow rules and guidelines set by local governments to make sure the system is up to code.

Here are some examples of the types of projects they work on:

• Electric & natural gas utility service design for residential, commercial, & industrial customers.
• Electric & natural gas utility service design for new construction, existing structure upgrades & relocations, & temporary services.
• Electric & natural gas distribution system upgrades, overhead power line rebuilds/replacements, converting overhead electric facilities to underground, & gas main extensions/replacements.

Requirements

• Must be a senior in 2024/2025 school year
• Must remain on track to graduate by end of 2024/2025 school year
• Must remain in good standing with your school
• Must be punctual and have excellent attendance throughout school year and any existing employment
• Must maintain safe work practices at all times
• Must have reliable transportation by April 30th of 2025 to use for field visits in southeastern WI
• Must obtain a valid driver’s license by April 30th of 2025
• Must pass drug/alcohol screenings prior to beginning of program
• Be engaged and show dedication to your training
• Show respect to the skilled workers training and supervising you
• Respond in a timely manner with all required paperwork and requests
• Comply with Kapur company policies and Youth Apprenticeship Program Agreement
• During the summer months, must work a 40 hour work week – 8 hours per day between the hours of 7AM and 5PM
• Position is in office – no remote work allowed
• No degree is required but it is encouraged to continue education beyond high school diploma
