The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is accepting applications for Highway Operations Center Seasonal Worker (Engineering) positions within the Bureau of Highway Operations in Newington.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Location: Newington.
Monday - Friday, First Shift.
8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, Temporary.
Anticipated start date in May 2026 and ending by August 31, 2026.
A valid driver's license is required to drive state vehicles to and from field/construction sites and town meetings.
THE ROLE
As a Highway Operations Center Seasonal Worker (Engineering), you will be exposed to a variety of engineering tasks. You will have an opportunity to see firsthand what it's like to be a Transportation Engineer at the DOT.
Duties May Include:
Reviewing basic design plans.
Performing mathematical computations and calculations.
Collecting and entering data.
Accompanying engineers on field reviews.
Assisting in construction inspection activities, assisting with the preparation of reports.
Performing other related duties as required.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of assigned specialty;
operation of equipment, materials and activities of assigned specialty;
Knowledge to degree necessary for dealing with and understanding an individual’s behavior;
Skills
interpersonal skills;
oral and written communication skills;
techniques of assigned specialty skills;
Ability to assist individuals in self-care habits, personal hygiene and proper social conduct where applicable;
understand and carry out written orders and oral instructions;
Adequate physical strength and stamina to perform duties;
Some positions may require supervisory and/or leadership abilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or coursework in transportation engineering or computer engineering.
Experience or course work performing engineering tasks under supervision.
Experience using engineering-related computer software.
Experience presenting to a diverse group of people.
