Description
SkyAlyne and the RCAF Foundation have announced new scholarships that will support Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The 10 SkyAlyne sponsored scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, will support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students who are either from or studying in geographic areas near SkyAlyne’s three Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program sites, including Moose Jaw, Sask., Southport, Man., and Winnipeg, Man., and SkyAlyne’s headquarters in Ottawa, Ont.
This initiative marks a shared commitment by SkyAlyne and the RCAF Foundation to foster greater inclusion and representation in STEM fields, while investing in the next generation of talent within communities that are connected to the ecosystem of the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program.
“SkyAlyne is proud to sponsor Indigenous students pursuing STEM education,” said Kevin Lemke, general manager of SkyAlyne.
“We recognize the importance of creating opportunities that empower students in the communities where we live and operate, and we are committed to helping build pathways that can turn into meaningful and impactful career opportunities. The long-term nature of the FAcT program enables us to make meaningful contributions to skills development and foster capacity building.”
The scholarships will help reduce financial barriers for Indigenous students and encourage participation in STEM disciplines, which are critical to improve Canada’s innovation and defence sectors – and specifically programs like FAcT.
“Now in its fifth year, the RCAF Foundation has had the privilege of supporting students in meaningful ways, providing more than 500 scholarships to help remove barriers and open doors to opportunity,” said Jeremy Diamond, founding CEO of the RCAF Foundation.
