Description
Brickell Brands is a science-driven skincare company dedicated to premium, GMP-compliant formulations. As we bring compounding fully in-house, we are building a production team that meets the highest standards of consistency, safety, and innovation. We are seeking an R&D Scientist with extensive experience in cosmetics, skincare, or pharmaceutical manufacturing to support scale-up of new product development.
- Take new products from idea to final formula independently.
- Reverse-engineer existing products to match performance, texture, stability, and pricing benchmarks.
- Assist in compounding and support the initial scale-up of new formulations from laboratory to pilot and production.
- Collaborate with the Compounder to improve processing methods and manufacturing efficiency.
- Finalize product specifications and assess product stability data to ensure product integrity.
- Validate and qualify alternate raw material suppliers.
- Support and participate in quality investigations, including root cause analysis, formulation troubleshooting, and corrective action implementation, as needed.
- Work with multiple departments to reach product development goals related to sourcing, purchasing, packaging, and marketing.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors to stay informed on emerging and innovative ingredients.
- Assist in purchasing raw materials with internal buyer.
Requirements
Role Qualifications:
- B.S., M.S., or Ph. D in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science discipline
- 7+ years of experience in skincare product development
- Basic knowledge of compliance preferred - MoCRA, EU regulations
- Experience with common lab best practices for both safety and cleanliness
- Experience working with a production team to compound formulas and troubleshoot issues pertaining to compounding and scaling up
- Ability to work independently from a simple project brief
- Experience with all-natural formulas a plus
- Must live within commuting distance of our South Portland, ME facility, or be willing to relocate

Physical Requirements: This position is office-based and requires sustained work at a lab bench for extended periods, along with some work on a computer. Candidates must be able to remain in a stationary seated or standing position for an extended period of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
