Description
Site Development Engineer, Civil
Company Overview
Dataprana is a North American digital infrastructure company focused on AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center development. With a large energized site pipeline across multiple U.S. states and an ambitious multi-gigawatt roadmap, we are building a distributed network of mid-scale, modular data centers optimized for speed-to-market deployment. We provide the infrastructure backbone for current and future data center needs, with the ability to deploy faster and leaner than traditional developers by focusing on land acquisition, power strategy, permitting, and rapid energization.
Our mission is to pioneer the future of AI infrastructure through sustainable, efficient solutions that deliver long-term value to our clients, partners, and team. Building on proven expertise in power strategy and operational excellence, Dataprana is positioned to become a leader in AI/HPC data centers across the United States.
About the Role
The Site Development Engineer is a mid-level, hands-on internal civil engineer who supports the project developer on early-stage site design for Dataprana’s AI/HPC data center projects. You will help produce civil concepts that de-risk projects before capital is committed and prepare technical documentation that allows the development team to move sites toward permitting and Notice to Proceed.
Working closely with the development lead, power team, and external consultants, you will create concept-level site layouts, translate utility and municipal requirements into buildable designs, and help surface site issues early.
Key Outcomes
- Develop first-pass site plans that integrate building footprints, access, grading, and drainage, including zoning exhibits and preliminary stormwater concepts to support control decisions and early submission packages.
- Assess local codes, zoning ordinances, and permitting pathways to flag approval risks and support the development lead with technical documentation needed for applications and reviews.
- Contribute to Critical Issues Assessment by identifying potential site constraints such as setbacks, neighboring residential sensitivity, wetlands, stormwater and drainage challenges, infeasible pole routes, right-of-way conflicts, or constructability issues, and clearly document risks and mitigations.
- Partner with development and power leads to refine promising sites into shovel-ready concepts that can be advanced into formal engineering and utility review, and permitting processes.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil Engineering; basic working knowledge of electrical principles is a plus, but civil expertise is the core discipline for this role.
- 3+ years of experience in site design for industrial applications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or Civil 3D (or similar software) for site design
- Experience preparing civil layouts, technical exhibits, or supporting materials used in zoning, municipal review, or permitting processes.
- Ability to evaluate concept-level site feasibility, identify practical site constraints early, and communicate design tradeoffs clearly to non-engineers.
- Ability to manage multiple early-stage sites in parallel, prioritize based on risk and impact, and work effectively in a lean, fast-moving environment.
Ideal Candidate
- Prior experience in data center development, grid-connected energy projects, or large industrial site development is a plus, but not required.
- Exposure to zoning boards, planning commissions, and municipal review processes, including preparing exhibits, responding to comments, or supporting senior staff through entitlement and approval workflows.
- Track record working with utilities on site plan reviews or service extensions, including coordination around pole lines, substations, and protective schemes.
- Understand and be able to build basic single line diagrams and perform load analysis.
- Familiarity with permitting and environmental review considerations that affect early site design (stormwater, wetlands, floodplains, nearby residential or sensitive uses, and similar constraints).
- Basic familiarity with single-line diagrams and civil/electrical coordination is helpful, but deep electrical design expertise is not required for this role.
Location & Work Environment
- Primary Location: Remote (Texas preferred)
- Travel Requirements: Moderate travel as needed for site visits and pre-development meetings
Compensation
- Base: $130,000 – $160,000 annually (Depending on experience and qualifications)
- Bonus: Up to 15% of base salary
- Unlimited PTO, subject to Company policy
- 6 paid US holidays
- Professional training reimbursement
